This route begins at the spot on the photo at the left (it is located at the "La Muela" park, and it takes three minutes on foot from the rural house.)
Castronuño was built on the top of a cliff. In the year 900 after Christ, a castle was built for defense. By this time, it was an area of "nobody´s land". And, though Arabs came here, they did not settle definetely. But they did in Tordesillas. This way, with the Duero river passing by down the cliff, Castilian soldiers thought it was an strategic place to stop Arabian forces. The path shown on both pictures descends down to the river.
The picture at the left shows the section that reaches the lower part of the route. After, it becomes flat to the dam.
Speaking of Castronuño is doing of exoticism. In the middle of the Castilian waste land, this oasis of vegetation and foliage remains hidden.
Tree and bushy species create a jungle filled with poplars, black poplars, ash-trees, brooms, ivies, lianas, willows and climbing plants.
This is a magic corner. It is in the lower part of the path and, from here, it begins to walk along the river. These poplars shown in these pictures are centenary. It is an very pretty and cute small area filled with foliage. It seems that Nature has become into an sculptor fear of vacuity. Warbles coming from several bird species are heard. It is really a special place.
Although I see this spot almost daily, (I do jogging about four times per week -back and forth from Castronuño to Villafranca, the nearest village) I always get astonished by witnessing all this beauty. I always wonder what this place has, because I never get tired of being there; contemplating; breathing; listening; staying.
Picture on the left shows the end of the bridge of the dam; the one at the right shows the road which drives to San Román (between Castronuño and San Román there is a distance of 14 kms), which is lined with "Tinta de Toro" D.O. Toro vineyards. The number of wineries start to increase. The path at the left on the right picture is the one that keeps on by the opposite shore.
The path drives to fishermen spots.
Fishing contents take place; the Fishing World Championship took place here and, two years ago, the National one.
You can fish with the modality of fishing without death.
At the end of the path, you will find a settlement and a small picnic area. There are some information panels about the route.
The path on the picture at the left drives to the one showed on the picture of the middle and, the one on the right, drives to the other bridge which crosses the river, this time, addressing to Castronuño.
I hope you have enjoyed this photographed virtual tour and, when you come, you enjoy not only landscapes but also fragances, sounds, and all the magic atmosphere surrounding this little jewel.
